Elli Groner

Scientific Director, Dead Sea and Arava Science Center (DSASC)

Dr. Groner completed his B.Sc and M.Sc degrees in Environmental Biology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.  He then went on to complete a Ph.D. in Ecology at Leeds University in the United Kingdom. Dr. Groner specializes in desert biodiversity, ecosystem integrity and ecosystem services.  His research involves comparing arid and hyper-arid ecosystems in their structure, function, and services. Dr. Groner investigates food webs, eco-hydrology and the integrity of ecosystems and how they are self-organized differently in arid and hyper-arid ecosystems. He also works on restoration of disturbed desert ecosystems and the impact of climate change on desert ecosystem processes. Elli also works on many projects with Middle Eastern neighbors on a variety of projects.  He lives in Mitzpe Ramon at the heart of the Negev Desert with his wife and 3 kids.
