This Fellowship is intended to increase visibility and networking opportunities and to provide timely recognition for research, scholarship, and creative activities. Up to $2,500 may be requested. Funds can be used for travel, accommodations, and scholarly preparation of products emanating from the experience.

Applicants may request up to $50,000 to spend on activities leading to extramural proposal submission for international research and development projects. An international collaborator and/or institution is required and must be documented in a letter of collaboration or support; those that have matching funds will be given priority.

It promotes the organization of international workshops, seminars, and thematic schools organized by network partners in France and abroad. Climate change is an important component of several concurrent global environmental changes that also affect human health – often interactively. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report underscores that our understanding of the links between climate, climate change, and human health has increased considerably in recent decades. However, there are still many gaps in knowledge about likely future patterns of exposure to climatic-environmental changes, and about the vulnerability and adaptability of physical, ecological, and social systems to such climate change.

We assume that the sense of wonder linked to the aesthetics of landscapes is a first step towards enhancing respect for the environment: 1) The aesthetic component of landscapes leads to an increased environmental awareness that modifies behavior, and attachment to iconic landscapes can transform certain ecological "dictates" into environmental benevolence. 2) In the face of the anthropogenic landscape change and the current environmental crisis, cultural diversity and multiple ways of seeing and interacting with the world can be mutually enriched by their complementary ontological approaches and contribute to the common goal of preserving the environment.

Certain languages are particularly vulnerable to climate change and associated trends like migration and globalization. For related reasons, these languages resist treatment using "big data" techniques. There nevertheless exist cutting-edge methods for describing and analyzing the language of these small linguistic communities. The resulting scientific and cultural contribution of these languages Is consequently outsized relative to the size of the communities that use them. Our particular focus is the study of meaning.

MedFires is an interdisciplinary project focusing on fire in the Mediterranean Basin. It hypothesizes that naturally fire-prone black pine forest socio-ecosystems (BP-SES) can be sustainable under low-intensity fire regimes but can be profoundly altered under fire suppression or high intensity fires.

Arid landscape transformation is a pressing global challenge; warmer temperatures and changing precipitation regimes are expected to decrease water supply in many arid locations that are already water limited. This may result in the expansion of arid landscapes and ecosystem changes in existing arid landscapes. Arid and semi‐arid lands cover nearly half the planet - Rapid warming and shifting precipitation regimes threaten already fragile and water limited ecosystems.

The project proposes to turn to the past to apprehend the future better to unravel the true scale and the functional evolutionary mechanisms of the long-term battle between bats and viruses: by detecting ancient epidemics through bat genomic adaptation and molecular virology to identify virus families with a pathogenic potential and to unravel innovation in bat genomes that may be key for antiviral prevention/therapeutics.

Quantum Technologies are at the forefront of current research. A significant limitation of the current technologies is the scalability of the spin carriers that feature long coherence time (superposition of states), such as single nuclei, magnetic atoms, or defects. Tailored molecules or Single Ion Magnets (SIM) are a very appealing alternative because molecular engineering shall help solve the scalability issue. Yet, efficient molecular qubits based on SIM remains rare due to fast de-coherence, which is induced by the interactions between the metallic ion and its environment.

Our computational science capabilities have created a recent explosion of data that is rapidly changing how the scientific community investigates complex phenomenon. In particular, we are now leveraging high performance computing resources to simulate across a variety of applications of interest.The challenges of analyzing scientific data are particularly severe because they are large and unwieldy.

Uveal melanoma (UM) is the most common primary intraocular malignancy in adults with different prognostics. Standard of care
carries side effects with long-term morbidities, including blindness. There is an unmet need for therapies protecting ocular tissues
and preserving vision. This project will address this challenge by combining near-infrared photo-controlled gene-based therapeutic
delivery with photonic nanomaterials to investigate focused gene therapy efficacy against UM using a new organoids-on-chip model.

Ion channels are expressed in many tissues. Due to their important roles, they constitute one of the most important drug targets for the treatment of diseases such as type-2 diabetes, epilepsy, pain and cardiac arrhythmias. We and others demonstrated that peptides from venoms are promising tools can selectively target ion channels.

Reproduction in angiosperms is crucial for seed and fruit production. The mature pollen grain (MPG) germinates and transports two sperm cells into the pistil in a pollen tube, where guided by various signals, it will discharge them into the ovule for fertilization and form the seed.

Some grand challenges facing humanity include climate change and health. Unfortunately, implementing effective solutions for these challenges is counteracted by misinformation, disinformation, and malinformation (MDM), e.g., climate change denying or anti-vaccine propaganda. To address this issue, we propose robust and holistic fact verification methods. The proposed methods can reduce data bias, aggregate information across multiple statements, and yield global conclusions.
